Each side always hires their own expert. Maybe they are shopping for a lower valuation than the Blackstone valuation? They certainly won't accept Solomon's valuation.

For example, a friend of mine was in a terrible auto accident. Her attorney (plaintiff's side) hired an accident reconstructionist. The respondant's side hired one also. Of course both experts had opposing opinions. The experts are very aware of who is paying the bill.

I worked on an estate where the attorney "hinted" to the appraiser that he wanted a valuation of under $xxx, xxx. If the value was slightly higher than that number, an estate tax return would be required. If it were lower, it would have saved the family the cost of the tax preparation of the return. As the CPA, I would have preferred a higher valuation. LOL.

The attorney said to the appraiser that he wasn't going to tell him how to do his job, but if the value is above $xxx, xxx, the estate didn't want a formal report. And, you guessed it, the valuation was just under $xxx, xxx and a formal report was prepared. This seemed like a very reasonable way of handling the situation. Many times the valuation will be in a range with the appraiser writing that the range of value is $400,000 to $500,000 and finally stating that the value is $450,000. Well, why not $400,000, or $425,000, etc.? Valuation is not an exact science.

I know it's Saturday, but isn't anybody the least bit curious about why Rosen is "double-paying" for another valuation service(triple if we count Blackstone)when the estate has been paying PJSolomon for the same work?????Opinions anyone?????
