In logic, a tautology is a statement which is true by its own definition, and is therefore fundamentally uninformative. Logical tautologies use circular reasoning within an argument or statement. Your authors would have better served to have said, "Don't fight the trend". What they did say, as quoted in your post, was preachy and illustrative of the logical error described above.
