How does short work? They borrow shares to sell to market betting the stock to drop. They short massive amount. Question is what happens when it doesn't go down? They wont buy back to cover right away or that'll bring the price up. So what do they do? They observe the price every minute and everytime it goes up alittle say .005 for tiv. They Will short and sell shares cheaper in market. Making it look like theres no demand to keep price down. BUt what happens if demand is too strong? Force to cover at a lost. HOw does that happen?
