It is different with each state. I find that the fee can often be circumvented entirely with a nice phone voice or polite email. Colorado charged me $20 total for all three inquiries last week. For Delaware, just use there online chat feature to avoid the fees, Nevada posts the share counts online, but charge $15 for copies of the docs. (that is for bulk docs,indivualy its $2)
