spider, couple of thoughts about the issue you say is bugging you(and clearly quite a few others!).

That one issue is the apparent disconnect that currently exists between....

1)- IDCC's bottom line financial performance(i.e., revenues and profits) and the shareholder rewards those strong financial results should certainly drive... vs,

2)- the compensation that has been, and is, being delivered to those who are responsible for making everything happen as we expect and hope for at IDCC.

I think there is a very simple one word answer to why that apparent disconnect exists. IMO that word is "Nokia". If Nokia plays fair and pays IDCC what they are contractually obligated to pay, the issue goes away. Until that happens, some will express their frustration in any way they feel appropriate.

"We want OUR rewards right NOW!" and "No more for YOU until we get OURS!" are the chants that come to mind every time this IDCC long reads another one of those "The pigs are at the trough again!" posts - LOL!

My belief is that the IDCC folks have accomplished pretty much all that is necessary to create the value we are expecting, and that it makes sense for them to be compensated for their work products as they are completed. Nobody seems to have a problem with paying IDCC engineers for creating the patents, but it's "pin the tail on the donkey" when it comes to management.

Been mighty clear for awhile now that IDCC management was going to have to find enough leverage to force Nokia into paying what we deserve for all of that patented engineering work, and that the only way to do that was going to be through an extended legal process.

That is exactly where we are, and that is why we have the "apparent" disconnect. IDCC's accomplishments have been achieved and rewarded as they should be IMO, but shareholder results are waiting on the gears to turn in a legal process.

Tic, toc. The first serving of IDCC management's strategy for getting Nokia to pay up is coming out of the oven sometime before June 1, 2005.
