This judge does not rely on a Special Master. He is qualified to handle his own Markman Hearings. This is why he has a rocket docket. Both sides know that they cannot win in his court by out spending the other with a bus full of bedazzling expert witnesses. He is as qualified as any expert witness to engage in claims construction. This is quite different from the Ericy litigation in which both sides knew Judge Sanders had no handle on the the technology at stake.
