"Hartcourt" beat out Micrroft and Intal, two other names "doc" considered. Doc, who was probably from some rice paddy village in Vietnam surely figured it sounded upscale and was virtually the same as the venerable publishing company. A good name for pumping purposes in the 90s.
Hartcourt means nothing in Chinese. (where do you get this?). Hartcourt wasn't in the "China" business for its first few years.
