To my mind one of the failings of the US education system is the naive belief that everyone should go to college. Far better to emulate Germany and have a parallel strong technical/trade education system.

Recently in my local coffee shop I overheard several of the long term baristas discussing how much fun college had been. I think it would be a fascinating statistic to find the number of people in the service industry at the lowest levels have a bachelors - I'd bet in the US it is a high number. And it seems a substantial waste of resources.
