Investor relations stated that the expected date of the merger was at earliest December 31st and at latest mid January. If you look back at posts from the day before the merger completion, you can see that everyone here expected to see it completed, as mid January crept up. So no, I don't think it was fishy at all. It was pre-planned almost a month in advance.
