Pads are the top period enviro-culprit. Did you know that sanitary pads are twice as destructive to the environment as tampons? A 2006 study from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden found that the energy required to process the polyethylene plastic found in pads impacts global warming, ozone depletion and causes the release of sulfur and nitrogen oxides.
Green, Period: Most generic sanitary pad companies use plastic, polypropylene, and ingredients that are derived from petroleum. Natracare's pads are chemical free and are 95% biodegradable and fully compostable. "Flushaway" is a biodegradable sanitary pad that biodegrades in 71 days once flushed into the toilet.
