Weather Forecast
Wednesday, January 5th - 6:50 am
We've had a patchwork of freezing rain and sleet this morning around the metro area. Mainly pockets of icing are being reported in Portland suburbs from North Portland into La Center and Orchards... and west of the city.. around Hillsboro and Forest Grove. Some icing has been reported around Canby.. where temps are slow to thaw. Most of Portland is above freezing and seeing only rain. Side streets and sidewalks appear to be the biggest problems in west, north and a few south suburbs. Temperatures will warm up above freezing in these locations by 9am..and all precipitation will fall as rain without glazing. Daytime highs will finally make it to the low 40s in metro Portland-Vancouver-Salem.
The Gorge area is under a Winter Weather Advisory for the rest of the day...into tonight. Highs will finally warm above freezing in the afternoon. Until then, 2 to 4 inches of snow, and a mix of freezing rain/sleet near noon.
The weather turns normal beyond today- showers tonight and tomorrow with daytime highs near 45.
Those refreshing cool fronts of the fall eventually turn colder, bringing frosts, freezes, and winter precipitation. However, the cold air in the Plains can be extremely shallow, leaving Wichita in frigid temperatures while keeping this Rocky Mountain city in a neighboring state in relatively balmy conditions.
