This patent sounds like something everyone will eventually need or want.

StrikeForce Technologies, Inc. Receives Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent Office For Its Application Titled "Multi-Channel Device Utilizing A Centralized Out-of-Band Authentication System"
Strikeforce’s patent-pending ProtectID™ is the first and only identity authentication solution whose ‘Out-of-Band’ technology creates a separate pathway for authenticating a user’s credentials. This is achieved by leveraging an existing device to which virtually everyone has access – the phone.

The advantage is obvious at login. Instead of being asked for a user name and password, an individual is now only required to supply a user name. Within seconds of supplying that name, the individual’s telephone rings. The ‘Out-of-Band’ call can be programmed to either a cell phone or a landline.

ProtectID™ identification can be either two-factor or three factor. For two-factor identification, the individual is asked to enter a password – not on the computer where it can be easily hacked but on the phone keys. For three-factor authentication, an additional biometric-based authentication (voice, iris, fingerprint) can be performed.

Once the authentication is complete, the original application (online bank account, credit card application, e-commerce purchase, corporate network access) that requested the individual’s name allows the user access without the vulnerabilities posed by traditional authentication methods.

ProtectID™ is the only integrated identity management platform able to ensure the true identity of any user on any system while simultaneously leveraging various authentication methods to deliver a dramatically lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
