I had one for several years that was a hand me down from a buddy and it was the CPU heatsink that died but the keyboard was sturdy and had no problems. It was a Satelite series but can't remember the model. I just remember having to take it apart to replace the heatsink.

Not sure if that helps but keyboard was fine in terms of being beaten upon.
