System Authentication
With system authentication, applications will authorize the actual computer system - checking it for defined levels of security including patch updates and virus-scan status - before allowing it access to information on the network. Dell's system authentication security solutions include the Trusted Platform Module (TPM), which comes standard on Dell's new D-family of Latitude notebooks, Dell OptiPlex desktops and select Dell Precision Workstations. TPM is the most recent step in the effort to standardize trusted PC platforms, involving a chip embedded in a system that identifies that computer as an authorized system. This cutting-edge technology is based on specifications developed by the TCG industry standards group, and helps prevent attacks from hackers looking to capture passwords and encryption keys to your data. For more robust, bundled system authentication solutions, Dell has partnered with developers of leading security packages such as IdentiPHI and Wave, enabling additional authentication features such as single sign-on and password management.
