THIS POST IS A LITTLE LATE BUT I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT FIND IT INTERESTING
From the book "Your Body's Diet" by Dr. Robert Jenkins
Now, let's talk about another concern in the Kitchen, the microwave oven. The microwave oven first appeared commercially in 1954 and for home use in 1967, so it has been around a few years. Microwave cooking does not leave food contaminated or radioactive. Ther is no FDA or governmental agency that has released studies showing harmful effects to foods cooked in microwave ovens. (USDA Department of Agriculture/Fact Sheet on Appliances and Thermometers/Cooking Safely in the Microwave Oven)
How does a microwave oven cook food? Microwaves are oscillating electromagnetic waves, similar to sunlight or radio waves. Electromagnetic waves penetrate about one inch beyond the food surface. As created in proportion to the food's density. The friction thus created generates heat that spreads into the interior of the food.(Note the heat generating by friction when you rub your hands together). Most of the cooking is done by heat conduction just the same as in a conventional oven. By generating the heat inside the food, cooking time is greatly reduced. Does heating cause some decomposition of food? Yes, in both microwave and conventional ovens. Raw food is best, but there are many foods that cannot be digested easily unless cooked.
P.S. I think it's probably OK to shower in water that is heated with microwaves - wouldn't you say?
