The company is also laying the ground work to set-up
the Shamika Resources Foundation to promote the
company’s core values in areas such as health care,
education, micro-finance, and women’s and children’s
rights. It will be governed by both Canadian and
Congolese laws.
Shamika Resources is undertaking this venture
because even if the DRC government has the primary
responsibility for ensuring that companies respect
human rights, companies must also uphold human rights
in their operations and in their sphere of influence.
