On January 4, 2007 the company raised it's number of authorized shares to 6,000,000,000 shares.

Despite doing two reverse splits 500:1 on 1/29/07 and 200:1 on 12/3/08 to significantly reduce the number of outstanding shares they still had to increase their number of authorized shares again to 8,000,000,000 on 12/31/09.

And despite raising the number of authorized shares to 8,000,000,000 on 12/31/09 the company still had to do another 500:1 reverse split on 6/7/10 to again reduce the number of outstanding shares.

I think that pretty much verifies the extremely high number of shares that were being issued.
