Fonix SpeakThis Named a Finalist in the 2002 ColdFusion Developer's Journal
Readers' Choice Awards in the 'Best ColdFusion Web Service' Category

SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Fonix(R)
(OTC Bulletin Board: FONX) SpeakThis(TM) ( www.speakthis.com ) has been named
one of the finalists for "Best ColdFusion Web Service" in the 2002 ColdFusion
Developer's Journal Readers' Choice Awards. The complete results of SYS-CON
Media's ( www.sys-con.com ) 2002 ColdFusion Developer's Journal Readers'
Choice Awards were released today. Each year the company conducts a poll to
select the best ColdFusion products in 12 different award categories. More
than 5,000 ColdFusion Developer's Journal readers cast their votes to select
the best ColdFusion products of the year from over 158 nominations. The polls
opened on the SYS-CON.com Web site on August 26, 2002 and ran through
October 1, 2002.
Fonix SpeakThis converts web content to MP3 audio files, so that websites
can be listened to online or downloaded to any MP3 player. Webmasters add
SpeakThis buttons to their websites using automatically generated HTML code.
When a SpeakThis button is clicked, the page's text is converted to MP3 and
the SpeakThis audio player begins speaking. The site visitor also has the
option of downloading the MP3 file to listen to the webpage at their
convenience using any MP3 player.
SpeakThis works with all web scripting and programming environments
including Java, ASP, PHP, Cold Fusion and Perl. And SpeakThis supports the
industry standard for speech synthesis online, the W3C (World Wide Web
Consortium) level 2 CSS2 Specification for Aural style sheets.
"Awards are given as a result of SYS-CON Media's unique and patented
voting procedure, which is openly tabulated and audited for accuracy by an
independent audit firm," commented Robert Diamond, editor-in-chief of
ColdFusion Developer's Journal. "As a result of wide participation by the
thousands of industry professionals who are among ColdFusion Developer's
Journal readers," he continued, "the results mirror closely the market share
and popularity of each product."
The ColdFusion Developer's Journal Readers' Choice Awards has become the
most respected program of its kind in its first year. The listings of
36 finalists and 12 winners can be located at the ColdFusion Developer's
Journal Web site ( http://www.sys-con.com/ColdFusion ) and in the upcoming
November issue of ColdFusion Developer's Journal.
