Yes, the old "deferred revenue" bugaboo! I am not an accountant but I guess the only way to account for upfront payments, from a balance sheet perspective, is to classify them as liabilities that get allocated over the terms of the agreements. At the least, it distorts the "book" or "real" value of the company. No?
