Aruba Raises Standard for Secure Wireless Networking

Aruba Networks (News - Alert), Inc., a company that specializes in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, reportedly announced that its 802.11n solution and ArubaOS Release 3 have been validated within the FIPS 140-2 Federal Information Processing Standard for cryptographic security.

The validation includes Aruba’s 200, 800, 3000 and 6000 Series Multi-Service Mobility Controllers, 802.11a/b/g/n indoor and outdoor access points, resilient mesh software, and Remote Access Point technology.

Aruba employs field-proven hardware platforms and software applications for providing a rich feature set with predictable performance eliminating degraded reliability, management issues and the increase in expenses due to requirement of more security appliances.

“FIPS 140-2 validation strongly positions Aruba to deliver high security to users with the performance and cost saving benefits unique to 802.11n,” said Dave Logan, Aruba’s general manager of federal solutions, in a statement. “Secure indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi uses extend from foxholes to fortresses, from local facilities and depots to remote sites.”

Logan said that newly enabled applications include secure network rightsizing with replacement of expensive wired Ethernet system with secure 802.11n wireless. This and the linking of users to a Secret Internet Protocol Router Network from a Non-Secret Internet Protocol Router Network via secure wireless or remote access network enhances security in wireless LAN supporting a wide range of high security, Wi-Fi based applications.

The FIPS 140-2 standard gives the specifications for cryptographic security requirements for sensitive but unclassified information. FIPS 140-2 has validated Aruba Release 3 networks using remote networking and mesh which have been deployed at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, NAS, the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S Department of Defense Medical Health System facilities, and select U.S. Air Force bases worldwide.

The company’s 802.11n solutions offer wire-like performance and other features designed to reduce deployment costs and improve security. It features 802.3af power over Ethernet and the software reconfiguration allows repurposing for connectivity, mesh, intrusion sensor and other remote access applications.

Aruba’s Trusted Platform Module securely stores device configuration data for protecting network integrity even in cases of access points being probed or stolen. Adaptive Radio Management enhances performance by managing Wi-Fi client behavior without the need for client plug-in or proprietary client adaptations.

In other news, the company recently announced Secure Wireless Access Modular Package project for the Air Force Special Operations Command delivers SIPRNET over an Aruba FIPS 140-2 validated secure mesh wireless network.
