from the info you provided, it could mean that thay are borrrowing from a credit line attatched to their checking account. maybe its not that they do not have the money/funds---rather than they do not want to leave themselves short on cash incase something comes up. they could have also took out a short term loan (installment loan), etc. jmho in respone to your post.
