April 19, 2010: Naturally Advanced Technologies Concludes Successful Commercialization Scale Trials in Europe and the USA

Trials Prove Quality and Volume Capabilities of CRAiLAR(tm) Organic Fibers and Expands Applications to Include Tee-Shirts and Finer Gauge Knit Garments

PORTLAND, Oregon, (April 19, 2010) - Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc. (NAT, OTCBB: NADVF, TSXV: NAT) conducted full scale commercial processing trials in Germany, that were then replicated at the G.J. Littlewood & Son processing facility in Pennsylvania. Final verification of the effectiveness of the processing protocols established during the past two months was evident during spinning trials that were successfully concluded last week at Patrick Yarns in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. In addition, these trials have confirmed the effectiveness of the CRAiLAR process on other bast fibers such as flax.

Most importantly, these findings concluded the ability of CRAiLAR Organic Fibers to be spun to commercial grade yarns with counts as high as 20/1 and blends of up to 50% CRAiLAR. The opportunity created by these results will be proven in the commercial quality and volume capabilities of spinning finer yarn weights blended with 80% cotton and 20% CRAiLAR Organic Fiber. The successful spinning expands the commercialization potential for CRAiLAR Organic Fiber blended yarns beyond its current applications to include heavier knits such as socks and fleece to finer knits such as Tee-shirts.

"We are thrilled with our commercialization trial results, which far exceeded our goals and our partners' requirements," stated Ken Barker, CEO of Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc. "2010 has been fruitful. In the first quarter, we conducted full-scale trials using our proposed manufacturing equipment supplier in Germany, while enhancing our agronomic and analytical ability to ensure best crop management practices that have a profound impact on our processing efficiencies. The results fulfill the final milestone needed to negotiate our commercialization agreements. We look forward to continued updates on our progress shortly."

Following the achievement of spinning the 50% cotton and 50% CRAiLAR blend and the newly tested CRAiLAR flax and cotton blend, Patrick Yarns has also found success spinning fibers suitable for everything from carpet to upholstery and denim to outerwear.

"The trials demonstrate a significant breakthrough in environmentally sustainable yarns," said Gilbert Patrick, CEO of Patrick Yarns. "These successful trials continue to open a door of many industry possibilities for apparel and textile yarns."
