The problem IMHO is that they do not go short for any length of time.
My MM friend would disagree with your statement. He claimed that MM's often held positions (short and long) for months and even years.
And the finra monthly short numbers do not reflect any naked shorts (and neither do the daily numbers). IMHO, they really don't give much insight into what the situation is with CDIV and the FLD.
Like you said, you can either believe in the FLD concept or not and act accordingly.
