Actually, I wasn't. I try very hard not to get into arguments on the technical merits of the products from the two companies. No one wins that argument. Each has its advantages and its shortcomings. They certainly do compete aggressively with each other, so it is arguable that each has a competitive product lineup. This is certainly true compared to say, Via, who most decidedly does not have a competitive product lineup.

Incidentally, I do not think that SOI is DOA at all. It may not appear in Barton, but I believe that Hammer will use it. SOI is a completely new process, however, and I agree that it is fairly certain that AMD is experiencing what I believe is primarily yield problems, though the low speeds of the engineering samples out there hint at poor binsplits also. There is no doubt that there are process problems. The real question is how soon they can be worked out. It took several months to get a good Tbred stepping and we still do not see volume parts.
