The point though is that just to pump out the water is the easy part. Maybe the whole shaft has to be re-timbered because the old timbers are shot. The Mines Inspector might even condemn them. THEN the re-timbering becomes a prohibitive chore. ALL shafts are timbered .. not just for safety but to establish the guide timbers that hold in the access cage that is just like an elevator you see in all the buildings. And all the mine shafts have ladders from top to bottom that go up from landing to landing. All the old ladders and the landings would be rotten. I don't think the Inspectors would allow them to do the work. But if they did the expense would be eeeeeeenormous !!!! I think what's left in those old mines is going to stay right where it is forever. I wonder what Pierre and friends think they are going to accomplish by reopening the Sinker Tunnel.
