We are deeply concerned about the environmental consequences of the Gulf spill. We hope that by setting an example by lowering prices on our booms we can get other boom manufacturers to make an effort to control prices in the face of this National environmental emergency.

Because MOP booms are 4 times more effective (pick up 4x more oil) and made of recycled materials that have a very stable raw material cost, we are able to retain cost/price stability. This gives us an advantage and allows us to continue to produce MOP booms at the reduced costs.

Make no mistake about it, while this decision is a response to a national environmental emergency, it is still a hard headed business decision. We expect to capture market share with this announcement and share-of-mind by bringing it to the attention of the national media and decision makers that MOP booms are more cost-effective and performance-efficient than any other boom on the market.

The case for allowing certain loose sorbent to be used in the Gulf has been presented to NOAA by Senator Jeanne Shaheen. (D-NH) They have requested that they look over our documents regarding the use of MOP sorbent specifically.


Containment Booms vs Absorption Booms

One thing that has been very confusing to a lot of people is that there are two distinct types of booms being deployed in the Gulf. Containment booms that hold back oil but do not absorb any oil and absorption booms that absorb oil.

MOP makes only absorption booms. Our booms are 4 times as absorptive as any other booms being deployed. Right now the Coast Guard and BP are focusing on containment booms because the spill has gotten to be so out of control that they are trying to prevent it from moving south into the Gulf stream. Within the next few days we expect them to turn their attention toward absorption booms.
