I think you mean that 55 mil were on an uptick. Firelane is right. You can't have more buys then sells, this why it is a trade. Now, if the buys are on the uptick then buy volume wins and generally the stock moves up to the next ask level. If selling is on the bid, sell volume prevails and down the stock price goes.

We ended on an uptick because the last two trades seemed like some one bought shares on the uptick and lots of it. 6mill were traded in 2 minutes at the ask.
