If the holding company/ companies were structured correctly then WMB should be all they should have been able to seize. The bank should have been primarily debt, the deposits. The loans should have been sold to the parent. Loans are assets, where did JPM pick up a 30 billion-dollar loan portfolio from an illiquid bank with 188 billion dollars in deposits? It is simple 30 billion should have a future vale in the neighborhood of 90 billion dollars, add in all the other assets of the holding company and once again you come up with that 100 +/- billion missing dollars that was the holding company. All of the accounting tricks in the world just don’t make100 billion dollars disappear overnight. Only the FDIC and a bunch of shifty lawyers can do that.
