I read that article with great intrest as it reminded of my youth. I grew up in Virginia where my father as well as his father carried S&W 38 cal. wheel guns everywhere. My Grandpop always carried a pair, though you never saw them. At age nine i had a Remington rolling block .22, two model 37 red letter Winchesters, a Remington nylon 66, and a 1911A1. That was in the day when most if not all citizens there owned, and most carried, a handgun. I look back and joke that if you lived there you were required to own a firearm. On wednesdays and saturdays they would go to the "tradin grounds", where all the men would buy, sell, or trade their guns and knives. My Grandpop had a case built into the trunk of his Chrysler just for his guns and knives. Back then, everyone also whittled. My Grandpop loved his Case XX canoe, while my Dad preferred the Old Timer, made by Case also. I saw quite a bit of Virginia cedar wood shaved with those two knives.
Today, even though i still have the 1911 .45, and a .44 auto mag, I prefer a Glock i have in 9mm.
My daughter loves to shoot. Grown now, and never got to meet her Grandpop or Great Grandpop, She is just like them without even knowing. For me, our guns have been a family tradition that i,m sure will be carried on well after i,m gone.
