I would agree with you with the following stipulation. If the person uttering the expletive is not known for doing so, then it can have the effect you describe. However, if every other word out of someones mouth is profanity it loses a great deal of it's effect.
For example: how many foul mouthed comedians come and go every year vs. the fact that people still talk about Bill Cosby's comment on people that use cocaine (the only time I've ever heard of him using a curse word).

BTW, how are things on your end?
