Agreed, however the important numbers to me are what anyone would pay and that is greatly influenced by what CVX would sell it for. A (IMO) valuble place to start crunching numbers is to figure CVX's investment. Would they sell for a substantial loss or would they be able to sell at a profit would reflect on the value of that oil.
