The Lesotho article clearly explained DeBeers (who know the value of stones better than Gump) realize the value of a kimberlite pipe is the number of large gem stones it can produce. This does not take huge tonnage it takes huge stones with the tonnage factored in. E.g. many of the Lesotho deposits don't have small stones or even micro-counts but they do turn up every once and awhile 50+ carat gem quality stones. I.e. this cannot be extrapolated using normal calculation methods.

I still don't understand how something buried under 300 feet of unconsolidated sand with several water acquifers is an easy mining target. Maybe you can explain that.
