***A De Beers Conspiracy in Fort a La Corne?
I've heard rumors that De Beers went private because of the tremendous mineral wealth of the Fort a la Corne (FALC) region for some time now. Matter of fact, it was Urban who brought my attention to the rumor in a 2002 PR: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0EIN/is_2002_Nov_27/ai_94659909.

Well, I finally decided to do a little research into the topic in order to put that rumor to rest. However, as I progressed in my investigation I started to run into an odd series of seemingly meaningless details that ultimately led me to one conclusion.

Do me a favor, follow the set of links I've provided and give me your honest opinion. Remember, I have no delicate sensibilities to offend, so be honest in your appraisal. Please tell me there's nothing there and I should take a vacation from these boards.

1) Why did De Beers recently decide to spend $17 Billion dollars to go private?.

2) Why did De Beers recently decide to settle a longstanding case with the US Government?

On July 13th in an Ohio court De Beers, the world's largest producer of rough stones, finally pleaded guilty to charges of price-fixing of industrial diamonds and agreed to pay a $10m fine, thereby ending a 60-year-long impasse. De Beers executives are at last free to visit and work directly in the largest diamond market, America.

3) Why did De Beers recently decide to move FALC up on it's list of priorities & invest $6 million dollars recently?

4) Why did Kensington recently move to protect itself from a takeover by De Beers?

5) Why has Kensington been accusing De Beers of dragging it's feet on the FALC project and intentionally hiding the wealth of the area?

I would speculate that it's because De Beers has made such a large investment in the infrastructure on the continent of Africa that the last thing they want is to attract attention to the Fort a la Corne region and open a second front.

6) Why at a time when De Beers is faced with a long list of problems in it's African mines, are they across the world digging around in Canada? Shouldn't they try to appease and pay off petty dictators? Shouldn't they concentrate on the fact that some of their African mines appear to be "mined out"? What about mounting a defense against the Israeli tycoon who single-handedly broke the De Beers monopoly on the continent of Africa. Furthermore, isn't he taking away old sources of diamonds from De Beers by offering a better deal to the petty dictators one must deal with in Africa. How about fighting the wave of sentiment against the import of conflict/blood diamonds. On July 9th, the first case of successful industry self-regulation against trade in so-called “conflict diamonds” took place when Congo-Brazzaville was punished for failing to prove the source of its diamond exports. All the aforementioned issues appear to me excellent reasons why De Beers is intent on leading a new mineral rush into the Canadian wilderness.

7) China's Communist rulers have a blunt message for anyone who frets about the planned Chinese takeover of Canada's biggest mining company: Get ready for more to come. By coincidence, the country of Ecuador is also mentioned.

8) Why has De Beers placed such a high value on Canadian conflict/blood free diamonds.

The world is moving toward from conflict and blood free diamonds

Read the horrible reasons why the world is saying NO to conflict diamonds.

Mining conditions in Canada are, in contrast to those in Africa, extremely worker & environmentally friendly.

9)De Beers transferred an Exec. VP who was in Africa for 20 years to FALC a while back. Read the posts below and add another piece to the puzzle that is FALC. My thanks to abadgoodgirl for making these two posts.

In summary, I apologize for the conspiracy laden post, however, that is part and parcel of the search for the missing link that "we all know is out there".

Good Luck and it's ALL speculation, OR IS IT?
