I need help, entered this question twice already on forums and I guess their answer to questions they cannot answer is just ignore the question; shoulda started here but I bug you guys (mainly Bruce) enough.

I have a hp ze4427 laptop, AMD chip 1.795 mhz, XP, approx 14 months old. I have power problems. Started out with occasional difficulty getting the battery to charge or getting the unit to run off a/c. Acted like a short, fumbling with the cord would usually fix it, problem continued getting worse, actually felt like it was a loose connection between the unit and the adapter. Disassembled the laptop the male end was secure, stripped the adapter where I thought the short was; no short. Decided it must be the female end not making connection; ordered new cord, same problem.

It has gotten to the point where it is difficult to run the unit, it will not "show" connected long enough to charge the battery it will not run on a/c alone. When up, it intermittenly switches back and forth from a/c to charging.

When none of my hardware ideas worked I went to soft, ran adware and anit-virus programs (which we run twice per day anyway), updated bios.

At this point I am struggling just to get enough power to the thing to get it booted up. If it ever comes up I have no other problems with the unit except for this power issue. I might have a heat problem, shutting the system down, but the unit will not work any better cold either.

I have ran out of ideas and it is now so difficult to power up any software diagnostics would have to be short to actually get finished before it hibernates. Battery check out fine, remember it will not run a/c either.

Would appreciate any ideas you might have. Thanks

Kevin
