It may depend whether your acct is a margin acct. With my etrade acct, I had to switch to a margin acct so once I sold shares, I then didn't have to wait for them to settle before making another purchase.

With the old acct, I would get a message saying my acct would be restricted if I sold the new shares before the others settled.

Not sure if that helps at all.
