If you've already posted a question on SI does posting it here, too, count as nagging? How about spam? How about just pathetic?

Here's what's happening....

I'm getting messages I don't understand. This is what happens.

I've been working on files that are stored on my hard drive in 38 separate rather long Word documents. I've been moving from one to the other without any problems for a while. Today I opened and closed them routinely, but then when I attempted to open one I got the message

The system is dangerously low in resources! Would you like to terminate the following application?

[Winword not responding]

I clicked Yes.

Then I got the message

Navw32 caused an invalid page fault in module KERNAL32.DLL at 0197:bffbe64b

I clicked a CLOSE button.

The hourglass just went on and on....

I did Ctrl Alt Del

and got, again,

The system is dangerously low in resources! Would you like to terminate the following application?

This time instead of Winword not responding it said

Explorer not responding]

Choice of Yes, No, Cancel.

Cancel just gives you more opportunity to look at the hourglass.

No runs through all your programs (all the ones that get shut down when you run EndItAll), and you have to shut the computer down with Ctrl Alt Del to escape.

I'm wondering why my system is suddenly low in resources?

The Local Disc capacity is 18.6 GB

Used is 5.79 GB

Free is 12.8 GB

I tried again to open one of the files I've opened without any problems several times and got the The system is dangerously low in resources message again.

Earlier I got it when I brought up Outlook Express, too, but I was just able to check my email uneventfully.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

I'm running Windows ME, IE.

I've rebooted twice, defragged, and run scandisk. The hard drive is sounding real busy, btw.
