Nokia, Huawei Finish China's First R4 Interconnection Testing
SHENZHEN, Nov 01, 2004 (SinoCast via COMTEX) -- Shenzhen-headquartered Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (Huawei), the leader in communication equipment manufacturing in China, joined force with Nokia, the world's largest cellphone maker, to announce their success in the nationwide interconnection of its R4-based long-distance video IP call networks with its WCDMA gear for the first time in China.
The two companies had finished the voice call testing in this July and just completed the video call testing recently. The triumph indicates that Huawei and Nokia had gained a solid leading position in the R4-based long-distance VoIP field. Moreover, it will greatly promote the development of 3G in China, the largest mobile phone market around the world.
At present, more and more telecom carriers close their watch onthe R4-based telecom networks and gradually accept it. A numberof 2G networks operators in Finland, New Zealand, and Taiwan have started using Nokia's R4 mobile switch system and some WCDMA carriers in Hong Kong and Unite Arab Emirates have applied Huawei's R4 soft-switch framework.
