cintrix, a very savvy friend just alerted me that adware [NOT Adaware] may be suspect. This site lists trustworthy and suspect spyware removal programs. http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#trustworthy

Spybot and Adaware are on the trustworthy list. the suspect list is much longer. some suspect adware detection programs are claimed to detect false positives.

The savvy friend also reminded me that an AV program is often not designed to detect spyware. that's why most of us use several programs to protect against all types of malware.
