The fight for WaMu documents

Earlier this week, I received an email from the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), the federal agency that regulated Washington Mutual.

For months, I have been asking the office to release internal communication between WaMu’s regulators under the Freedom of Information Act, the decades-old law that requires government agencies to disclose documents to the public.

The emails are crucial to understanding why regulators seized the bank in September 2008 even though it appeared to be on solid financial footing.
