When measured against the price of silver, gas prices have remained unchanged (for the most part) since at least 1964.

1964 was the last year that coins were minted using 90% real silver. The silver weight of a quarter was 1/6th oz. A gallon of gas in 1964 was .25

Today the price is silver is roughly $18. 1/6 oz of silver is $3. roughly the price of a gallon of gas.

Prices have remained the same. The dollar value is what has changed. However, the problem is that cost (relative to the dollar) have risen far more than wages.
