I heard David Halberstam, author of TEAMMATES - A Portrait of a Friendship, interviewed tonight. The book is about (4) RedSox players: Dominic DiMaggio, Johnny Pesky, Ted Williams and Bobby Doerr, and how their friendship lasted through the years. It's a good book and a very fast read.
Halberstam believes the RedSox' "curse" never was about The Babe, but about Willy Mays - seems the RS had a chance to sign WM early in his career, but prejudice prevented the deal. Mays could have played alongside Ted Williams and made the RedSox team a real powerhouse. (it's good for the YANKEES they didn't).
