It certainly is difficult to say what forces and decisions have driven this company over the years to where it sits today. Your thoughts on the matter may be as plausible as anyone else's.

For myself, I tend to doubt that it was EDIG's decision whether or not to work with Gateway or anyone else. I understand they have limited resources and can't afford to pursue projects with low profit potential, but I'm not convinced that they should be turning away business in established areas if it could earn them even modest revenue.

For a long time now, I've watched the company seemingly drop old initiatives in favor of pursuing the next big thing - until they change direction again to pursue something else... never quite following through with anything of significance. Of course, the Digeplayer is the exception.

I wouldn't have them not focus on those products with the greatest potential, but I still wonder whatever happened to the DAPs and the PVPs we were supposed to be working on with announced and unannounced OEM/ODMs. That we're apparently nowhere to be found in a highly visible and growing market is troubling to me.

We SHOULD be in Gateway's next DAP to be announced this week (assuming the product is a next-generation DMP-X20). We SHOULD have been in MPIO's HD300 (given that our HD100 was their first jukebox-type player?). In other words, if we worked with both Digitalway and Gateway in the past, why aren't we working with them again?

Perhaps they can accomplish what they want without us or their past experience with us was not particularly positive. Either way, if we can't obtain repeat business, then what does that suggest about our company?

Too many questions and not any answers. At this point, I'll be satisfied with whatever moves the ball forward. Obviously I'm not privy to what has happened with various opportunities or why certain decisions have been made - nor has anyone ever asked me to advise. These are just random thoughts for the record.

I know we're expecting a business update this week. Again for the record, I think this 'update' will be fairly underwhelming and short on real details and future guidance. It has become the norm. What we need is news of real products beyond the Digeplayer and/or realistic numbers/projections of future sales.

As always, we'll see what happens.
