JMHO fred...
If you purchase an EDIG design player, you get the microOS for free...provided EDIG gets a healthy percentage of the player value...Hence, the lack of contracts/initiatives in the player market..and the seeming "lack of interest" in pursuing the player market, and switching to emphasis on the digEplayer...
So much for the dozen contracts, for six digit production levels...
Again, JMHO..if EDIG was so fixated on becoming a standard, they would have simply put a price of $2-$5 on each licensed product, gotten the microOS into the market...and moved forward...going for massive disemmination, and just been happy.
Heck, if you sold 3M players, at $4 each/year, and just handed over a secured source code to earn it...take the $12M and run..you can still work on the digEplayer & whatever else...
Why else would EDIG complain to Gateway, or anyone, about the margins...'twould be like Firestone complaining to Ford that the retail price of the car was too cheap...Ford would just go to Michilin...Gotta wonder, if in their search to see "quality projects", EDIG didn't overvalue the microOS..hence, cutting off their nose, to spite their face.
5 years ago, we may have had a unique product. Obviously, that market has moved forward anyway...and continues to move forward..without EDIG.
