If they find a zone that is loaded with oil, they can follow that zone to other traps in the area. So yes, it does help them understand what they may have in other traps and makes the seismic more reliable. But each trap has to be drilled to prove it up.

I tend to believe they have found something up high that is better (in their minds) than the zone they had targeted. We'll see.
