Oh God. This looks really bad. The news story does appear to be about our Joe and Dr. Kong. Everyone involved in the story is from the San Francisco area. The names and professions are too much of a coincidence to be casually written off as a simple coincidence.

Even if the study is 100% on the up and up, the apparent conflict of interest is going to taint the results. If the relationship turns out to be true, it was an extremely reckless move on the part of the Joe to have her conduct the study.

I hope this is just an unfortunate coincidence. But if not, Joe should be immediately fired, the study results discarded, and a new study commissioned to prevent any further appearance of impropriety.
