Need some advice...

A friend of mine wants a slide/negative scanner. She apparently found one for around $130, but Espon also apparently makes a multi-function printer/scanner type thing that does the same thing for only a few bucks more. She's not sure what to do.

This is an older couple, and they just want to save some slides and negatives into digital format for their family. I like to play with video, but have no experience with this slide/negative kind of thing. Any advice or suggestions?
