Taj Resorts no 4 in Green Brands survey

Taj Palace Delhi

Hospitality group, Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, has been judged Number 4 in the 'Green brands survey' in India.

The survey was held to identify the top 'Green brand' across seven countries, a Gateway Hotels press release said in India today.

The Taj Hotels group has always been very sensitive to environmental issues and has endeavoured to streamline its operations procedures at every level to conform to large environment conservation norms, the release said.

In August last year, the company formalised this process by introducing EARTH (Environmental Awareness and Renewal at Taj Hotels) vision which aims to put initiatives in place to reduce the impact of its hotels' daily operations on the environment.

In July last year, the group also decided to to go in for Green Globe certification, the only worldwide environmental certification programme for travel and tourism industry. In the first year itself, 55 Taj hotels achieved Green Globe certification.

The survey was conducted in seven countries--US, UK, China, Brazil, India, Germany and France by WPP agencies (NASDAQ WPPGY), Cohn and Wolfe, Landor Associates, Penn Schoen & Berland Associates (PSB) and Esty Environmental Partners.

Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces had announced rebranding of two of its hotels in Kerala to the newly launched brand -The Gateway Hotel - in January this year.
