haha me - yep actually there are no problems. lava is relatively a low temperature substance. The tubes are cooled in the first place with the steam in them. We are talking high pressure boiler tubing. Boilers have a hard time getting them hot enough so they make super heated convection zones and recalculate the steam many times before it can go to the turbines. You can always guess pretty close the temperature of something just from its color. Stuff starts glowing deep red at about 1,100 deg. The air at the top of a power house boiler can hit well over 1,200 deg.

thermal couplings are used in high heat so no problems with instruments. I could build this thing in weeks from used boiler parts :) Have a great weekend guys!
