Leaders of Madagascar's main political movements, who are meeting in Maputo and Mozambique have agreed to set up an interim government and hold elections by the end of next year.

Earlier this month, they signed an agreement which is aimed at returning the country to constitutional rule.

The leaders, including ousted President Marc Ravalomanana and his rival Andry Rajoelina and former presidents of Madagascar, Didier Ratsiraka and Albert Zafy are among those attending talks facilitated by Southern African Development Community mediator and former Mozambique President Joachim Chissano.

The transitional government will be in power until democratic elections are held by the end of 2010.
