Yep, it looks like patent 7,536,013 overcomes the weaknesses in the '579 patent. Here is the first independent claim:

1. A wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) user equipment (UE)]/b] comprising: circuitry configured to process a high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH); and circuitry configured to process a high speed physical downlink shared channel (HS-PDSCH) associated with the HS-SCCH when the HS-SCCH includes information processed with a user specific scrambling sequence associated with the UE; wherein the user specific scrambling sequence is a result of a 1/2 rate convolutional encoding of a UE identification (ID).

Note the specific reference to the handset (UE) and the change in wording to refer to "1/2 rate convolutional encoding" rather than a "1/2 rate convolutional encoder". This is key, because regardless of what structure is used in the design, as long as the output is the same the patent covers it. They now refer to "encoding" instead of an "encoder".

I think this is a very strong patent based on the subtle changes they have made.
